Staycation Birthday Celebration

As a mom, it can be challenging to find time for yourself, let alone time to connect with other moms. Between work, raising a 3-year-old, meal prep, housekeeping, volunteer work, and all of the other responsibilities that come with motherhood, it can feel like there’s never enough time in the day, the week, the month, or the year. Recently I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed with work, mom life, and volunteer work, and it wasn’t fair on my husband at all because every night they only got leftover pieces of me after I gave so much to others.

That’s why a mom friend’s staycation felt like a game-changer. Yesterday, I went on a staycation with two of my close mom-friends to celebrate our birthdays. And let me tell you, it was exactly what we needed even though at first I felt guilty giving my husband MORE work, single handling caring for our daughter. I made sure I cooked dinner before I left the house, finished all the laundry, and made sure my daughter’s ballet hair and set was done before I headed out the door.

We checked into a beautiful 5-star hotel and immediately hit the pool and spa. It was so nice to relax and unwind without worrying about anyone else’s needs for once. In the evening we enjoyed a lovely dinner and a mocktail, dressed up, and even had some make-up fun in our ensuite spa room! It was like in the movies, loving life being a girl!

The best part of the staycation was the deep conversations we had about parenthood and the stress and struggles we face in life. It was so refreshing to be able to share without worrying about being judged or misunderstood. Sometimes, all we need is someone to listen and understand where we’re coming from.

Being away from my husband and daughter was bittersweet, and I missed them (even though it was only like 20 hours!) But this staycation was a real treat and totally worth it. It allowed me to recharge and be a better wife, mother, and helper in the ministry. Sabbath is a commandment in the bible, and even though unfortunately it doesn’t say it has to be a staycation every time, I understand it’s important to take care of ourselves, and our hearts, and sometimes that means taking a break from our usual routine.

After dinner, we snuggles into our beds, lounged around in our robes, and had lots of girl talk. It was the perfect end to a perfect night. We left the hotel feeling rejuvenated and ready to take on the world. And even though we were only gone for one night, it felt like we had been away for a long time.

As we said goodbye to each other the next morning, I felt a sense of sadness. I missed my family, but I also missed my friends already. We hugged, we promised to do it again soon, and we went back to our daily lives. But something had shifted in me. I felt more grounded, more present, and more appreciative of the little moments in life. And I knew that the next time I felt overwhelmed or stressed out, I would remember our staycation and know that I had the support and love of my mom friends.

I couldn’t have gone on the staycation without the support of my amazing husband. He took care of our daughter and waved me out the door with a smile, encouraging me to have a great time with my friends. And I know my two mom friends felt the same way about their husbands.

It’s important to have a support system in place, especially when you’re a mom. Our husbands understood how much we needed a break, and they stepped up to the plate. They took care of our kids and made sure everything was running smoothly at home while we were away. I’m grateful for my husband and his unwavering support, not just for this staycation but for everything he does for our family. It’s easy to forget sometimes how much our partners do for us, but moments like this remind us how blessed we are.

So to all the husbands out there, thank you for being our rocks and for supporting us in all that we do. We couldn’t do it without you, and we appreciate you more than you know!
