I am obsessed with coconut oil! I use coconut oil every day on my skin, my hair, and in the kitchen. Unlike many fancy beauty and cooking products out there, it is free of chemicals and 100 percent natural. So here’s 5 ways you can use it in your own lifestyle.
Tip! Always buy unrefined, extra virgin coconut oil, since it goes through the least process and is closest to its natural state
1. Makeup Remover
My favorite uses for coconut oil that I discovered all on my own is it’s gentle power to remove makeup. One evening, I ran out of my usual makeup remover and then thought… how about coconut oil. I’ve heard before about removing makeup with olive oil. So why not? It was the greatest discovery in my life! Now, before I wash my face, I use my finger to gently rub downward on my face, on my eyes and eyelashes to remove my eye makeup from the day. Then gently remove the coconut oil with cotton. It will also help remove dead skin cells.
2. Face and Body Moisturizer
As a face and body moisturizer, coconut oil is much more hydrating than average store-bought lotions because the oil penetrates deep layers of the skin and actually helps to strengthen underlying tissues. For my body, I like to apply it in the shower while the hot water and steam helps my pores to open up. Then after you get out of the shower, gently pat your body with towel to dry.
Be careful not to wipe off the oil. Let the towel do the job sucking the water from your body surface. The best part about this oil is that it will absorb into your skin without feeling oily or greasy.
3. Hair Mask
Oil oil softens hair and adds shine. Simply heat up about 3 to 5 tablespoons of coconut oil in the microwave, so that it’s a warm liquid.
Apply it to your hair as you would any hair mask. Put on a plastic shower cap or wrap an old T-shirt around your head. Leave it on for 30min – 1 hour. Maybe read a book, watch a tv episode or fold your laundry while you wait! When you’re finished wash your hair with shampoo discover your best hair day yet.
4. Coconut Oil scrub
Coconut oil lavender sugar scrub that I use as an exfoliat and moisturizer too.
It smells fantasti, It’s the perfect exfoliator for sensitive skin and You can make it in five minutes or less
It makes a fantastic homemade gift!
Plus, this homemade lavender sugar scrub is also so much cheaper than other high quality scrubs! (More info on pricing below.)
The base for my lavender sugar scrub is a mix of coconut oil and granulated sugar. The sugar is a cheap exfoliator that most people already have in their pantry. The coconut oil is edible, so it’s perfectly safe to use on your skin.
I love making sugar scrubs with lavender essential oil because it’s calming and smells great. Lavender is a popular oil that practically everyone likes and is a good introduction to the world of essential oils. (If you’re new to essential oils, they’re simply all-natural, highly concentrated extracts from the aromatic parts of plants.)
