THE SINGLE GIRL’S GUIDE TO VALENTINE’S DAY

“All you need is Love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.”

Charles M. Schulz

Until I met my husband 4 years ago, I was totally TOTALLY single. For 28 years. It is only these recent 4 years out of my entire life that I actually started celebrating Valentine’s Day with a partner. I used to say, “Happy Single Awareness Day” on Valentine’s Day.

I used to feel like boiling water that is about to boil over because sometimes waiting for “the One” felt frustrating.

But if all I do is think about what I’m waiting for – be it marriage, pregnancy, promotion or anything in life, the heat of desire rises and so does frustration. Someone once told me that the balance between acknowledging desire, practicing patience and preparing/believing for the best in your future is the KEY.

Valentine’s Day can feel like a daunting holiday for the singles. But for those of you amazing ladies out there who are unattached, there are still plenty of ways to celebrate! Better to celebrate your singlehood than being bitter, jealous and desperate.

After all, there are creative ways to spread the love on February 14th whether you’re in a relationship or not!

I’d put together some fun ideas so that you can enjoy this love-filled holiday with your friends or even yourself.

1. Plan a Girl’s Night Out

Going out with your girlfriends on the night of Valentine’s Day can be a pretty great idea because many single (and hopefully sincere and cute) guys will be doing the same thing. As much as you don’t want to give in just to be with someone, that’s when your girlfriends can be your Bodyguard, Critic + the Judge. Buy yourself a fun new outfit and choose a fun spot to spend time with your girls. You’ll spend the night laughing and making fun memories out with the girls.

2. Host a Girl’s Night In

I love having a relaxed & fun girls’ night in, whether it’s Valentine’s Day or not. Comfortable pajamas, aroma candles, watching chick flicks, painting your nails together, reading magazines and ordering uber eats with your girlfriends –  that is my kinda day. Have a movie marathon featuring your celebrity crush.  Be sure to have some great movie choices on hand and create your own Nails Spa with some champagne and Strawberry Chocolates. Yum!

3. Pamper Yourself

Book yourself a Spa day—a massage, facial and steam room will feel decadent. Or use some of those gift cards you’ve been saving to take yourself on a little evening shopping trip to your favorite stores. Take advantage of the Valentines Holiday Sales and spend some money and spoil yourself! If you’re usually busy with work, this Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse for you to treat yourself and have that long waiting “me-time” you always dreamed of.

4. Do a Secret Santa-like Valentine exchange with your other single friends.

“Love” comes in different forms. To describe these styles, the Ancient Greeks came up with four terms (Eros, Storge, Philia, and Agape) to symbolize their four types of love. Philia & Storge : Love from your family, Love from your coworkers, Love from your friends. I think the Disney Movie FROZEN did a good job at delivering that message. Why not celebrate this form of Love by putting everyone’s name into a hat and have flowers delivered and chocolates bought for each other.

Do you have any ideas on how to spend this Valentine’s Day?
